World Heart Day is celebrated every year on 29 September. The purpose of the event is to inform and raise awareness of the importance of preventing cardiovascular diseases.
The 2022 campaign theme is ‘Use heart for every heart’, the intention is to draw attention to a number of common goals useful to the cause, such as, for example, ensuring equality of access to care, reducing air pollution (responsible for 25% of all deaths from cardiovascular diseases) and limiting stress by focusing on personal well-being
To mark this day, there were many initiatives to make the population aware of their heart health and the factors that can affect it.
We too, for our part, have launched and participated in a number of initiatives, offering our solution in the service of this important goal.
Resting ECG for everyone at the San Giovanni Bosco Hospital in Turin
On World Heart Day, the Italian Heart and Resuscitation Association Lorenzo Greco Onlus organised many events in different parts of Italy, collaborating with various healthcare institutions.
Additionally to the scheduled activities, in front of the San Giovanni Bosco Hospital in Turin, it was possible to perform ECGs free of charge thanks to our Telemedicine solution. In particular, the staff of Sanest, a private nursing company in the Piedmont region, performed resting ECGs with our innovative electrocardiograph, CardioPad Lite. The examinations were then reported through the Biotechware Cloud Platform.
CardioPad Lite at CardioRace 2022
On Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 October, the fourth edition of CardioRace, the Run for the Heart, was held in Rome’s Ostiense district.
On World Heart Day, the event, dedicated to promoting heart health and cardiovascular prevention, is organised every year by DreamCom under the scientific direction of the National Institute for Cardiovascular Research.
Different running races took place, all of them starting from the Gazometro on the ‘Riva Ostiense’. The Gazometro, besides being the starting point, was also a reference point for prevention. In fact, the ‘Villaggio Del Cuore’ was set up here, where it was possible to carry out free diagnostic screening examinations for cardiovascular diseases.
Thanks to the valuable cooperation of the Cardio Talenti nurses, resting ECGs were performed with our CardioPad Lite. The ECG examinations were completely cost-free for the public, and the traces were reported by the team led by Prof. Francesco Fedele (Director Cardiology Department Cardiovascular Sciences, ‘La Sapienza’ University of Rome, Azienda Policlinico Umberto I) and the doctors of the non-profit CardioSalus Association.
Our thanks are due to our own Andrea Costantini, for representing Biotechware at the event and for involving various actors in the successful implementation of the activities.
Numbers
The statistics also show the age groups most involved:
- 35-54 years with 33.33%
- 55-64 years with 26.32%.
- 65-75 years with 12.28%.
- 26-34 years with 10.53%.
More care for one’s own health emerged from the participants in general; it is clear that prevention should not be limited to check-ups only, but a healthy lifestyle should be adopted. The use of telemedicine, however, can certainly facilitate access to diagnostic examinations and facilitate the prevention process.
We at Biotechware are proud to have been involved in these events and to have come into contact with various local realities with which we hope to carry out more and more cardiovascular prevention and awareness activities.
